Muthaiyan Koil – Muladhara

Muladhara 4 Petals

Muladhara is described as a lotus with four petals. A yogi is expected to realize its nature through personal practice, while sacred places offer only a small glimpse of such inner experiences.

During the divine wedding of Siva and Parvati, the world was said to fall out of balance. This does not mean a physical see saw imbalance but a spiritual one — all the rishis and gurus had gathered in the north, leaving the south without guiding masters. To restore harmony, Siva asked Agasthiyar to travel south. Siva and Parvati blessed him with a lotus garland, and as he reached the Pothigai mountains, the garland flowed down and became the river Tamirabarani. Agasthiyar witnessed the wedding from there. The river is considered his daughter born of mind, and bathing in its waters is believed to kindle devotion in the heart.

While staying there and performing his duties, Agasthiyar received a vision of a radiant form of light (Jothi Swaroopam). He prayed to see the complete form, and it was revealed as Sastha with Poorna, Pushkala, and a vast retinue. Filled with joy, Agasthiyar performed a golden abhishekam, giving rise to the name பொன் சொரியும் முத்தையன்.

Moolathar Kshetram (spritual place) Sorimuthu Ayyanar Temple is the temple located in Mundhunthurai reserve forest in a dense jungle which is between Papanasam and Karaiyar Dam in Tamil Nadu. Achankovil – Svadhishthanam

Svadhishthana 6 Petals

Svadhishthanam is the second chakra, located in the lower abdomen, about four finger breadths below the navel, slightly inward toward the spine rather than on the surface. It sits between the pelvic area and the navel center, behind the front of the body rather than directly on it.

Achankovil (Achan means father) is associated with the Svadhishthana chakra, where svadhishthana (Swa-self, adhishthana-established) means one’s own inner seat. The deity installed by Parashurama is still present here, and the temple is regarded as royal in nature, with Ayyappa honored as a king. The region has many king cobras, and those affected by bites visit the temple, receive sandal paste and theertham, and stay overnight without other treatment. As part of the temple’s royal symbolism, a golden sword is carried in procession. Its weight is believed to shift in mysterious ways — sometimes extremely light, sometimes unexpectedly heavy — varying according to the devotee being blessed. Within the temple tradition, this sword is understood to have a weight that cannot be fixed or measured.

After Ayyappa defeated Mahishi in Erumeli, the Malayaraya tribes and local hunters celebrated by dancing (the origin of Pettathullal). They also marked the victory by throwing stones at the spot where Mahishi was subdued. Mahishi (means buffalo) – Erumail Kolli (எருமை கொல்லி) becameErumeli.

As Yoga practitioner move up in the chakra they get intuition powers. This maps to Parkada, where there are so many items came up like Kamadenu, Kalaga Viruksha, along with that Poison came which is Ego (Akankara). Crossing this chakra is hard.

This is why the Pettathullal happens here, we should get rid of ego.
